AXS.com Review – Chris Cornell delivered ‘Higher Truth’ to Ravinia

“Chris Cornell exceeded expectations with his performance at Ravinia Festival in suburban Chicago on July 3. During his nearly two-hour acoustic performance, he proved that he is much more than the full-throated frontman from Soundgarden. If Cornell’s solo show seemed misplaced on Ravinia’s season lineup because of his grunge past, it outshined the outdoor venue’s recent concerts.”

“Chris Cornell did so much more with less during his Ravinia debut. He used his 2011 live album Songbook as a blueprint, and once again told stories and stripped down songs from his Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, and solo efforts to their bare essentials. He further enriched the setlist with the best songs from his latest release Higher Truth, and topped it off with cover versions of classics reimagined in his own sound. Always considered one of rock’s best vocalists, Cornell is no longer superunkown as one of the genre’s best songwriters and live performers.”
